The SAFTE-FAST integration allows Safety Suite to calculate fatigue and alertness scores using validated biomathematical models.
These scores support fatigue risk management by identifying potential fatigue exposure during rostering and timesheet verification.
The integration uses duty and flying duty (FDP) information already recorded in Safety Suite and operates in a similar way to the FAID Quantum integration.
How it works
Safety Suite builds schedule data for SAFTE-FAST analysis based on how shifts are configured in the Roster.
The following principles apply:
SAFTE-FAST calculations use Duty and Flying Duty times recorded in shifts
Flying Duty Periods (FDP) must be fully contained within a Duty block
The user’s current base (home or touring) is used to account for time zone impacts
SAFTE-FAST results are checked during Roster and Timesheet verification
Steps to enable SAFTE-FAST
Enabling SAFTE-FAST is a one-time setup process. Once enabled, fatigue scores are calculated and displayed automatically.
To enable the integration, complete the following steps in order:
Assign access levels
Enable the SAFTE-FAST integration
Configure location codes
Verify SAFTE-FAST results
Step 1: Assign access levels
Only authorised users can configure and manage the SAFTE-FAST integration.
To assign the appropriate access, go to a user's Access Levels page and assign"Modify All" access to SAFTE-FAST Integration.
You can also assign this access via an Access Template. How to create (and edit) an Access Template
This access would typically be assigned to managers who perform rostering activities.
Step 2: Enable the SAFTE-FAST integration
Go to Site Setup > Integrations > SAFTE-FAST Integration
The Setup page should open.
Tick Enable SAFTE-FAST Integration at the top of the page
-
Configure optional settings as required:
Time Reference - defines which time zone is used for calculations
Effectiveness Thresholds - sets fatigue tolerance levels for your organisation
Click Save to save any changes
Step 3: Configure location codes
SAFTE-FAST requires airport codes to calculate fatigue accurately.
Go to the Menu > Locations module
Open the Location Register tab
Select Details on a location
Enter a valid IATA or ICAO airport code in the Location Code field (for example, LAX, or KLAX)
Click Save
The location code automatically propagates to the associated base.
Note: Every location linked to a base must have a valid location code. Missing or invalid codes will prevent SAFTE-FAST from generating results.
Step 4: Verify SAFTE-FAST results
After the integration is enabled, SAFTE-FAST scores are checked during both Roster and Timesheet verification.
-
Roster: via the Verify option
Go to the Rostering module
Select Menu > Verify
Review the verification results. The results will follow the same colour pattern as other exceedances.
-
Open a shift Query view to check SAFTE-FAST score in the Work Practice results table (at the bottom of the list).
-
Timesheets: scores show automatically within the Work Practice column
Open Timesheets.
You'll be able to see the scores in the Work Practice column, with colourful backgrounds applied.Click on the icon next to the Work Practice name to view details of all Work Practice rules, and the SAFTE-FAST score
SAFTE-FAST score is located at the end of the list.
SAFTE-FAST scores are available in both classic and PWA timesheets.
FAQs
Why do some shifts not return any SAFTE-FAST results?
SAFTE-FAST requires complete duty patterns to generate fatigue scores. Confirm that:
Flying Duty Periods (FDP) are fully contained within a Duty block
Shift codes follow one of these structures: Duty only, Duty with FDP inside, FDP only
If FDPs sit outside duty blocks, SAFTE-FAST results will not be generated.
Why do SAFTE-FAST scores look incorrect or inconsistent?
Inconsistent results can occur if:
Locations used in rostering are missing a valid Location Code (IATA or ICAO)
The user’s home or touring base is not configured correctly, affecting time zone calculations
Flying Duty Periods (FDP) are not fully contained within Duty blocks, preventing complete duty patterns from being formed
Check these configuration areas to ensure SAFTE-FAST can generate accurate and consistent fatigue scores.
